BDG usually assumes responsibility for the following areas of Design subject to the Client's approval. (Some areas overlap with the Project Management duties, which is indicative of the relationship between the two disciplines) These are:
- Working with the Client team and others to develop a Project Definition including quantities and types of facilites and signal standards
- Compiling a cost estimate proposal for review by management
- Compiling and disseminating drawing standards, procedures and policies
- Providing design, installation and support staff
- Compiling system specifications and writing tenders prior to RFQ issue, review of above in concert with management, users and procurement personnel
- Developing the design concepts for all systems, facilities, room and facility layouts
- Co-ordinating site meetings
- Preparing weekly progress reports and developing solutions to problems therein
- Designing and commissioning custom millwork
- Detailed design and installation of all facilities
- System commissioning and acceptance with the users
- Representing the Client as requested in discussions with local authorities as required
- Developing a method of tracking, identifying and asset coding equipment
- Developing a method of tracking incoming media of all types
- Developing a drawing library and cataloguing system
- Providing a training programme to staff engineers and operators
BDG typically assumes the following Project Management responsibilities and others as requested: Through a series of meetings with the client, ensure that a complete and detailed understanding of the Project Definition exists between BDG and the client team.
- Coordination with the architects, consultants and contractors
- Author and maintain the current project schedule
- Advise the client team regarding equipment purchases, equipment experiences, vendor reputation and system architecture
- Assume the role as client representative as far as all vendors are concemed
- Use the Project Definition as the guideline for the systems to be installed
- Advise the client of vendor's oversights or system deficiencies work with Finance to co-ordinate Asset Management, assist in rectification.
- Co-ordinate weekly site meetings and provide minutes thereof
- Meet with the client team as required to provide updates with respect to schedule, budget and performance of all suppliers
- Develop a strategy for pre-operational training
- Source local materials as required by vendors and contractors in order to speed up the programme
- With the client team sign off on the various facilities as they become available and also provide management of associated discrepancy lists
- Test and acceptance, on behalf of and in concert with, client staff
- Ensure complete and professional documentation is provided prior to acceptance
- Online extranet for all project data and communications.
Optionally and at the client's request, BDG may undertake the following responsibilties:
- Provide design and installation expertise as required for expansion projects
- Establish training procedures and schedules in concert with the manufacturers/suppliers
- Consult with manufacturers to ensure that the appropriate personnel are on site to represent and deliver their products or services.
